DEAR EDITOR - Last week's letter on angling is a circular sent to all local newspapers around the country by an animal rights organisation.
It was even pointed out by a national radio station last weekend, who had numerous callers mentioning this letter.
I thought I would have to reply to make the point that all anglers handle fish with great care and look after the local environment keeping towpaths clear etc - although you do get the occasional litter bug I agree, but so in all walks of life.
The letter also comments that 'the fish are dragged through the water with an evil barbed hook' - but barbed hooks are now banned at 99 per cent of waters fished and checked by water bailiffs
There is already ill feeling by a minority towards a pleasure sport which is enjoyed by millions who do care for animals and all creatures alike.
G.Overton,
Droitwich.
