DEAR EDITOR - I recently had the pleasure of meeting Mr Lee Hayward, grandson of Mr Hayward, a former and now deceased owner of the Worcestershire Hotel, in Droitwich Spa.

He came to research his grandfather's family history and had been told the hotel was a convalescent home for soldiers during the war.

I informed him that it was used by the Government of the day for some purpose, but not for that.

Perhaps one of your readers could let either Lee Hayward or myself know.

Also, would anyone have a photograph of his grandfather and his great aunt, Miss Hayward, that could be copied.

Lee has been working in America for over fifteen years and came back to England as his mother was seriously ill and later died.

I managaed to provide him with quite a lot of information from my research on the Worcestershire Hotel from 1891.

He is the last of this family of Haywards - there are no more male heirs (at least at the moment).

I was able to tell him he was just in time for the funeral of the Worcestershire Hotel, a situation that I expect will have Mr John Corbett and Mr Hayward both turning in their graves!

If any of your readers would like to contact Lee Hayward, his address is 34 Oaktree Crescent, Bradley Stoke, Bristol BS32 9AD.

E Copson,

High Street,

Droitwich Spa.
