FORMER England football international Carlton Palmer paid a visit to Bromsgrove Rovers last week with his Stockport County team.

Palmer, manager of the second division outfit since last season, and his squad used Rovers' Victoria Ground for a light training session before their league clash at Cardiff City last Friday.

Rovers chairman Tom Herbert has agreed to let Stockport use their facilities to break the team's journey up on long treks around the country.

In return, the two clubs will play a friendly fixture next year.

Palmer, who made 18 appearances for England, said: "I don't like the long journeys in a coach so we leave early in the morning and look for a place to stop off. We are happy here and they treat us well.

"We just do a bit of loosening up and practice our set pieces - it breaks the journey up."
