A man armed with a kitchen knife was caught on a security film trying to commit a hold-up, Worcester Crown Court heard.

William Rae, aged 29, of Burcot Lane, Bromsgrove, pleaded guilty to attempted robbery and possession of a bladed article.

He was remanded in custody by Judge John Cavell for the preparation of a pre-sentence report.

Although Rae had the knife in School Drive, Bromsgrove, he never took it out of his waistband, said William Rickarby, defending. He revealed the offence was captured on video.

Mr Rickarby said Rae intended to return to Scotland once he had served his sentence.

A blackmail charge against Rae was discontinued by the prosecution.
