JOHN Brain was satisfied with Worcester's 10-try demolition of Otley despite a slow start in Yorkshire.

The Sixways director of rugby watched on as Worcester came from 7-0 down to romp home 62-24 winners.

"It was a good afternoon's work," he said. "We started slowly, the atmosphere before the game was a little bit flat but once we got into our stride and put some phases together we scored some good tries.

"To score 10 tries away from home is a good indicator that things are moving in the right direction and we're happy with our progress."

Worcester's lineout misfired in the opening period of the first half and Brain made it clear during the half time team talk that the basics had to improve.

"We had a problem in the lineout," Brain added. "We spoke about it at half time because it's an important part of our game. We had some straight words at the interval but I think the players showed character and can be proud of the effort they put in.

"We had to defend for the opening 10 minutes of the second half and we did well not to concede. I think the boys are a little bit frustrated because, after all that good work, we've given two sloppy tries away at the end. However, I think we can be pleased overall because in patches we've played some good rugby.

"We will, though, have to tighten up in certain areas because we have Exeter on Saturday."

Otley have now played Worcester and Rotherham in their opening three games so far this season and Brain was pleased with the comments coming from the Cross Green camp.

"I heard the Otley people saying that Worcester look a very good side and we were stronger than Rotherham so that has to be positive!"

The former Gloucester coach also paid tribute to new signing David Officer who bagged a hat trick of tries from outside centre.

"David has been a really good asset for us since his arrival. He's a good professional, works hard and is a very good player. Three tries for him is just reward for all the hard work he has put in on the training ground and in matches."
