WORCESTER City have a good chance of progressing in the FA Cup after drawing Dr Martens Eastern Division outfit Stamford at home in the second qualifying round.

Bromsgrove Rovers are also at home to Tamworth as are Evesham United who play Cinderford Town and Redditch United at home to Leek. Ties will be played on September 28.

City boss John Barton will make a fresh effort this week to strengthen his team and replace Michael Blackwood before the FA Cup deadline on Friday.

Worcester tabled a bid to sign a left winger on Friday which was rejected and had a second bid for another left-sided player also turned down over the weekend as they sought to cover Blackwood's departure to Stevenage.

City maintained their unbeaten start to the season with a 0-0 draw at Crawley and stay top of the Dr Martens Premier Division after their nearest challengers failed to win.

However, Worcester suffered a further injury blow with the loss of Mark Shail and fear the could be sidelined for some weeks with a cartilage damage.

Barton remains optimistic and said the club needed to act quickly. "We've had a few injuries but we don't want to sit back."
