A LEARNING support assistant at a Worcester school has gone to great lengths to help secure specialist status.
Sharma Bevan swam a mile to help Blessed Edward Oldcorne RC High School achieve technology status.
The school, in Timberdine Avenue, needs to raise £50,000 to be able to secure specialist status in information technology and mathematics.
Mrs Bevan, who has a son in Year 9 at the school, took the plunge at Worcester Swimming Pool in Sansome Walk yesterday.
The challenge raised more than £700 towards the fund.
"She did very well," said Sean Devlin, school principal.
Mrs Bevan, who swam a mile in around 1hr and 15mins, gives individual support to students at the school in various subjects.
The school is organising a number of other functions to boost its bid, including a balloon race and grand raffle.
