WORCESTER Nomads 2nd XI hold the destiny of the divisional title in their own hands following results over the Bank Holiday weekend.

WORCESTER NOMADS II v OLDSWINFORD II

Going into the weekend in first place, six points clear of second placed Bewdley, Nomads had the chance to consolidate their position at the top of the table.

Anton Madzarevic's run of winning the toss finally came to an end on Saturday however, and Nomads were invited to bat by visitors Oldswinford

Things didn't get off to a good start, losing Marsh for two and Bland without scoring early on, and Matts for 12 in the 12th over. Dave Pearson (32) and Paddy Clear dug in, and Clear in particular looked to punish anything wayward on his way to a fine 77. Nick Williams (26) and Miles Illingworth (20no) pressed on in the last few overs, taking Nomads to 210 for 9.

In reply, the Oldswinford batting looked nothing short of fragile. Nick Williams removed Fradgley, and then skipper Anton Madzare-vic led from the front, taking six wickets, all clean bowled, as the visitors found themselves on 77-7.

The only resistance seemed to come from Griffiths, who after being dropped without scoring went on to make an unbeaten 77.

Oldswinford were never in the hunt and ended on 155-7.

Madzarevic also broke the league divisional record for the number of wickets in the season.

BEWDLEY II v WORCESTER NOMADS II

ANTON Madzarevic again lost the toss for the match against Bewdley, and once again Nomads found themselves invited to bat first.

Chris Marsh was away from the blocks in rapid style before Bewdley skipper Jones brought himself on from the top end and finally deceived Marsh, taking a difficult caught and bowled to remove the opener for 45.

Bland and 16-year-old Tom Cullen continued in the same vein, both completing half-centuries, with 56 and 52 respectively. Clear kept up the momentum, and after 30 overs Nomads had 170 on the board. Jones (who finished with 6-63) and Hudson bowled very tightly towards the end, and Nomads finished disappointingly on 233-8.

Ollie Butterworth quickly removed Mauger as Bewdley began the run chase. Mills followed for 15, and then Bewdley began to build a solid platform. Brown and Meek (32) took the score onto 147, and had moved the visitors into a winning position.

Nick Williams was brought back into the attack, and Gerry Kelly took a fine catch at backward point off him to remove Brown for 49. It was Williams bowling a fine second spell who grabbed the initiative back, with another couple of quick wickets. Tom Cullen also picked three up, and suddenly Bewdley had slumped from 147-3 to 170-8.

Butterworth came back to remove Jones, but Bewdley clung on, and picked up two points.

Over the weekend Nomads had won 31 points against Bewdley's 16.
