WORCESTER Nomads 1st XI continued their remarkable rise up the WCL Division Two table with another two victories last weekend defeating Oldswinford and Bewdley.

OLDSWINFORD v WORCESTER NOMADS

Saturday saw an exciting finish in a rain-affected game, with the two sides reduced to 38 overs each. The home side batted first, and posted a challenging total on the back of a useful innings from opener Brewer, making 53.

Most batsmen chipped in without threatening to build an innings, and were grateful for a quick 32 towards the end from Lyman, who remained not out. Wickets were shared between Ian Jinks, with 3-70, continuing his good run of form, and Derek Austin, back amongst the wickets with 3-52.

The visitors knew a chase was on, and were indebted to Simon Harris. Harris has rapidly established himself at the top of the order, and his value to the side was once again demonstrated all too clearly on Saturday.

When the match got down to the last over, and with Nomads still needing seven, Harris was still there, having been totally in control throughout his innings.

A four off the first ball from him almost assured Nomads of the victory, and so it was fitting that he hit the winning run off the fifth ball, to leave him unbeaten on 88, and with a win by three wickets with one ball to spare.

BEWDLEY v WORCESTER NOMADS

BANK Holiday Monday's visit to Bewdley didn't prove to be quite so dramatic, as Nomads dismissed the home side without too much difficulty for just 149.

Only Jones with 32 and Coombes unbeaten on 39 offered any sort of resistance. Adey Wooller was key wicket-taker on this occasion, taking 4-32, but young Miles Illingworth came on to great effect, bowling 9 overs and taking 3 for just 14, all clean bowled.

Harris once again led the way home, adding another half-century to his tally for the season, before falling leg before to Taylor for 57. Support came chiefly from Medley, with 23 and Huw Dimond with 28.

Victory was never in doubt, and duly came in the 39th over, for the fall of just five wickets.

Tomorrow (Saturday) Nomads visit Malvern (1pm start).
