MALVERN lost to lowly Martley on Saturday and then emerged with a creditable losing draw against high flying Evesham on Bank Holiday Monday.

MARTLEY v MALVERN

In attempting to chase 218 for victory against Martley on Saturday, Malvern had a terrible start losing David Arnold and Paul Young early on. James Purnell and Steven Carter then repaired the damage with an excellent partnership of 94. Purnell departed for a stylish 44. Carter finally went on to score 93 with some scintillating shots all round the wicket, but Malvern fell 10 runs short of a victory.

MALVERN v EVESHAM

ON Bank Holiday Monday Malvern entertained champions elect Evesham.

Evesham amassed 244, but there were tremendous bowling spells from Jeremy Cox and Neil Thompson, Malvern's ground fielding and catching was exceptional in a spirited display.

Malvern got off to a solid start with a fluent innings from Purnell. Young batted superbly for his 63 while Mark Baugh scored a determined 54 as Malvern scored 197-6 and gained nine vital points.

Tomorrow (Saturday) Malvern are away to Worcester Nomads, the in-form side in the league and Malvern need to win.
