TOMORROW'S home FA Cup preliminary round clash with Alfreton Town (3pm) comes as a welcome distraction to Stourport Swifts after a disastrous start to their league campaign.

Swifts lie bottom of the Dr Martens Western Division with just one point after three defeats on the trot including a 5-0 thrashing by rivals Redditch United.

Alfreton by contrast are unbeaten and are second in the Unibond Division One.

Player-manager Tim Langford described their display against the Reds as embarrassing and admits he has been surprised at their early season form.

"I couldn't have wished for a better pre-season but it has all just slipped away a bit," he said.

"We were five minutes from winning our first game but then threw two goals away and from then on we've been going in one direction.

"I think we are lacking a little bit of confidence however one win and it will all be forgotten."

Langford is without Simon Marsh who is at a wedding while Jamie Stainer, who also has a morning wedding, is a doubt.

Dave Davies, who needed hospital treatment after a clash in the Redditch match, is due to have a late fitness test but his neck and jaw are still sore.

New signing Ian Bennett is set to be included while goalkeeper Steve Nicholson has joined the club.
