A neighbourhood street warden has been appointed for Upton.

Mary Fisher has begun a four-week training schedule and will be introduced to the public at two meetings in the town in September.

The post has been created by Malvern Hills District Council as part of a joint community safety partnership with West Mercia Police.

Ms Fisher will be given training by various agencies including the police and environmental health officers and will act as the "eyes and ears" of the community.

She will learn how to deal with things such as vandalism and fly-tipping, along with with minor disputes and crime prevention.

The introduction meetings will be held at Upton Memorial Hall on Wednesday, September 18, at 7.30pm and Friday, Septem-ber 20, at 3pm.

MHDC's community safety officer Jenny Lawrence: "The meetings are for people from Upton to find out what it is all about and to meet their warden."

The post, which will initially be for two years, is funded from the Communities Against Drugs Initiative. A similar post has been set up in the Langland ward of Malvern.
