DEAR EDITOR - I must comment on the way the Conservative councillors on Bromsgrove District Council feel about the residents of Bromsgrove.

I have just returned from a full council meeting where we discussed the issue of free bus passes for our retired residents.

I must say I am disgusted at the arrogant attitude of these councillors. Let me explain - They have agreed to let you have a free bus pass or a free car park pass but if you want both then you will be charged £30 a year.

It is impossible to drive a car and travel on a bus at the same time so why should you have to pay this rich council £30 for having both passes?

If you just have a bus pass (no charge) If you just have a car park pass (no charge, So why should you have to pay £30 pounds if you want both?

I believe this is discrimination and an infringement of your rights.

I would suggest to any one that if you are asked to pay this fee then seek legal advice.

If they can give the passes free to people that only want one pass then they can give them free to you if you require both. It does not cost the council one penny to issue these passes and they only pay each time the pass is used.

£30 pounds is a lot of money to find each year for most of our elderly residents but the Conservative councillors decided at the meeting that it was acceptable to charge you this amount of money.

I am ashamed at the way the elderly residents of Bromsgrove are being treated. It is disgraceful behaviour from the councillors that were elected by you to represent you.

Cllr Bill Newnes,

(Lab) Catshill and Marlbrook.
