DEAR EDITOR - It is a welcoming sight to see that Bromsgrove District Council has made a much needed effort in helping parents to occupy their children during the summer break.

This being said, I feel saddened that I have to write this letter as a mother of two small boys.

Today, August 21, as I walked across Asda car park on Recreation Road I was stunned to hear a male voice announce that there was going to be some sort of fire-eating display, it was not the display that infuriated me, but the fact that this man was instructing the children around the stage area that if they wanted to try this at home the liquid in the glass was paraffin!

He didn't say this once but THREE times that I heard.

I was then intrigued to see who was saying such ridiculous things, only to find two grown men wearing silver thong posing pouches, who had also told children to close their eyes while they did something with a Cadbury's Flake!

These gentlemen then proceeded to do a Morris-style dance right in front of very young children who were sat on the ground around the perimeter.

I am sure that these performers are very talented but this display would be more suited to a night club.

I contacted Bromsgrove District Council who informed me that mine was not the first complaint they had received that afternoon. I had to let them know how unhappy I was with what I heard and saw.

I am by no means a prudish sort of person, but feel compelled to speak up about, what I feel, was very inappropriate "humour".

We have to remember that there are some very disturbed individuals around, there has recently been a man exposing himself in the Bromsgrove area, and to then have two men leaving very little to the imagination dancing in front of children and making comments about sweets etc, totally tacky and upsetting.

Mrs K Simpson,

Bromsgrove (by e-mail).
