BROMSGROVE Golf Club's 17-24 handicap team's hopes of promotion back to division one of the Birmingham league were dealt a servere blow last Saturday with defeat at rivals Redditch Kingfisher.

Playing at the challenging Plymouth Road course in extremely changeable weather conditions, the Bromsgrove team scored an aggregate team Stableford score of 272 points.

But it proved insufficient as the home team scored 293 points, winning the match by 21 points.

The Bromsgrove team scores were:

Mike Thomas (32 points); Peter Rooke (36); Chris Fell (32); Bob Brehaut (40 and man of the match); Bob Hodges (38); Chris Steel (36); Steve Hart (28); Barrie Claridge (30).

Team captain Steve Hart said: "This was a particularly disappointing result. Even with one round of league matches to go I don't think we can get into the play-off positions now."

However, there is still the opportunity of some success for the team this year as they have two cup semi-finals to complete.

Next Saturday, Barrie Claridge and Steve Hart play Hilltop Golf Club in the last four of the Chairman's Trophy.

On Saturday, September 7 the team play their Vale and Robinson Cup semi-final against Hill Top Golf Club.
