SHOCKED Kidderminster Harriers must shake off one of the most turbulent weeks in their history to keep any slim play-off hopes alive.

The club has been hit hard by the resignation of millionaire Lionel Newton from the board and defeat at rock-bottom Halifax within two days.

An emergency meeting today will decide whether long-serving board member Colin Youngjohns will make a more permanent step up to chairman.

Youngjohns, involved heavily at Aggborough for nearly 30 years, has filled in since Newton's departure on Monday.

But on the pitch Harriers lost 1-0 at Division Three relegation favourites Halifax the next day with an unenviable trip to in-form promotion chasers Luton Town on Saturday.

The future of boss Jan Molby was thrown into doubt by the exit of the man who appointed him manager in a Conference-winning masterstroke nearly three years ago.

But Molby has confirmed he is going nowhere for now and will wait to see who takes over at Harriers.

All staff at Aggborough will be waiting with baited breath however to find out what cuts, if any, must be made to next season's budget without the injection of Newton's cash.

And the possibility of a money-spinning play-off run in the short-term has taken a battering as Molby admitted: "The Halifax result is a massive blow to our play-off hopes.

"We need to win points away from home and I think we will be hard pushed to have a better opportunity to win than there.

"We should have had more than enough to beat them because Halifax didn't have a great spirit but it was probably the worst game you are ever likely to see in your life."

Harriers are still 10th in the table, four points off seventh-placed Shrewsbury with a game in hand.

But five of the last eight games are away from home where Harriers have not won since early January.

However, Molby will continue to guide them and he insisted: "There's no danger in the near future of me going anywhere.

"The board will get together and we'll see how we can best go forward.

"By all accounts it's not going to affect anyone in the short term.

"The club will carry on as it is, certainly in terms of all the players and the contracts will be honoured.

"We have to find a way without the money that Lionel was prepared to put in every year. I'm sure we are going to come up with a solution."

Harriers bid to make the Worcestershire Senior Cup final on Monday when they entertain non-league Solihull Borough (7.45pm).
