DROITWICH Spa Football Club is hoping its Wychavon District Council-owned changing rooms will be open soon as they prepare for five home games on the bounce.

Kevin Blaber's side face the string of fixtures from next Tuesday and are in desperate need of their changing facilities, which have been closed for fifteen months for refurbishment.

The team has kindly been allowed to use the changing rooms at Droitwich Spa Leisure Centre for the last two home games but that arrangement isn't permanent.

Chairman David West said: "We have five home games coming up but the changing rooms still aren't ready.

"It looks as though some electrical work has been done because there is a box outside."

Wychavon District Council's community partnership manager, Tim Deakin, said he is hopeful of writing to the football club by the end of the month, this Saturday, informing them when the facilities will be open.

On the pitch, the team continued their impressive start to the Midland Combination division two season by climbing to the top of the league with a 3-1 home victory against Archdales on Bank Holiday Monday.

Spa's third win of the season started courtesy of a Learry Johnson goal on 20 minutes before the visitors equalised five minutes later.

Johnson was on target again ten minutes from the break and Andy Pheasant made it 3-1 late in the second half.

On Saturday, Spa won a 4-3 thriller at Central Ajax.

Kevin Blaber's side were two goals to the good inside ten minutes through Johnson and Dave Drury but were pegged back to 2-2 with five minutes still left before the interval.

Then, 20 seconds from half time, Andy Keenahan unleashed a 40 yard effort which flew home to give Spa a 3-2 lead.

That advantage became 4-2 through Pheasant and Ajax pulled one back on 70 minutes.

It could have been even closer but the hosts hit the bar during a frantic final few minutes.

Both victories follow a goalless draw at Fernhill County Reserves on Wednesday, August 21 and a 3-1 home success over Kenilworth Wardens on the opening day of the season.
