A WEEK of activities for youngsters from five Worcester youth centres drew to an end with a fun day at the newly refurbished Warndon Youth Centre.

Sumo suit wrestling, Gladiator-style pugil-stick fighting, bouncy castles, a five-a-side football tournament and a barbecue were all part of the day's events.

During the week, which ran from Monday, August 19 to Friday, August 23, 11 to 16 year olds visited Weston-Super-Mare, Telford Ice Rink, Water World in Stoke-on-Trent, and Drayton Manor Park, in Staffordshire.

The summer fun week was the first time youth centres from Warndon, Dines Green, Ronkswood, Tolladine and Brickfields banded together to organise a joint event.

"It's been a good week," said Jeremy Tansley, area youth worker for Warndon.

"It's been a real success. All the centres have mixed together well and there haven't been any real problems."

More than 100 youngsters took part in the trips and double that number attended the funday last Friday.

The events were funded by Worcester Action for Youth and the centres' own fundraising activities, including one youth worker, Ross Cormac who braved a sponsored bungee jump.

After this year's success the clubs hope to organise something similar next year.
