A GROUP of young people, with a mutual interest in archaeology, is setting off on a week-long dig this month.

The 16-24 year-olds got together after meeting at an archaeological dig in Wyre Piddle in August last year.

They enjoyed it so much they set up the Bordesley Diggers.

Their work so far includes the Boffins and Bones exhibition, working with Mick Aston of Channel 4's Time Team and the Worcester Archaeology Unit and creating a website, which is close to completion.

The Bordesley Diggers are planning a trip to Bamburgh Castle, near Scotland, at the end of August and are also looking to recruit new members.

Member Lucy Cale said: "The group was set up to get more young people interested in archaeology and carry out more work with museums.

"There are about eight of us going up to Bamburgh Castle.

"We will be taking part in a week-long dig which will involve working alongside the archaeologists.

"Anyone who wants to join us doesn't have to have experience.

"The whole point of the group is to give people the experience and that little bit more knowledge."

The Bordesley Diggers meet at 7pm on Wednesdays at Forge Mill Museum.
