A BEOLEY woman is on a mission to collect more than 500 pairs of knickers to send out to poor women in The Gambia.

Active Women's Institute member Jacqui Gregory has already received almost 400 pairs of pants since she launched her appeal in March.

The move follows previously successful appeals by Mrs Gregory to knit jumpers for babies in The Gambia and collect shoeboxes filled with everyday items, including toiletries.

Mrs Gregory, who is a member of Beoley WI and Worcestershire representative of an International WI group, said: "Some women are so poor they can't afford underwear, especially if it's a choice between feeding the family or wearing knickers, the family come first." Mrs Gregory is going out to The Gambia in December and would like to ship the pants out before she arrives over there.

Anyone who would like to donate a pair of knickers to the collection can contact Mrs Gregory on 01564 742761.
