STUDLEY CC skipper Mark Lewis has set his side the target of two wins from their weekend double-header to put the championship in sight.

The weekend win over Highway kept the Washford Fields side top of Division Two East by 13 points from nearest rivals Kings Heath and Lewis says his side need to put more than 20 points between themselves and their rivals.

"With twenty points for a win, if we can come out of the weekend with 40 points, everyone else will be chasing us," said the Studley skipper.

"The teams chasing us all have to play each other and if we can pull 20 points clear, the onus is on the others every time they play."

An incredible run of seven wins from their last eight matches has put Lewis' side within sight of promotion to Division One of the Birmingham League.

A trip to mid-table Tamworth on Saturday is followed by the visit of lowly Four Oaks Saints on bank holiday Monday (both 12.30pm start).

"I don't want to tempt fate but these are games you have to win if you want to win the league," added Lewis.

"People are getting very excited in the village but I am trying to keep everyone's feet on the ground."

Moseley Ashfield also trail Studley by 13 points but have played a game more and Water Orton are 19 points adrift in fourth.

Water Orton were hampered at the weekend because it was their turn to lose the fixture against the now-defunct Solihull Municipal.

Kings Heath face Water Orton on Monday and still have Moseley to face and Lewis is hoping they will take points off each other.

"I expect Water Orton to beat Kings Heath and Moseley," said Lewis, "I think Water Orton and Kings Heath will be the teams challenging us.

"But Old Edwardians are a strong side and have yet to play Water Orton, Moseley and Kings Heath."

Studley will have to do without opening bat Simon Stamenkovic for the rest of the season after he suffered a broken hand at the weekend.

"Three wins from the next three matches might be enough for the title but although we are not playing teams at the top of the table they will still be a threat," added Lewis.

"Our opponents will be scrapping for their lives which could count against us."
