MICHAEL Grundy's Memory Lane on Upton-on-Severn brought back memories of years ago.
In my childhood, a trip to Tewkesbury, by steamer from Worcester, was a wonderful day out. At Upton-on-Severn the steamer had to either lower its funnel, or the bridge would be raised.
Many years later, I took a Mr Bell (who was Clerk of Worcester when the Worcester Severn Bridge was widened) to see the new Upton bridge.
The old bridge was still in position. I have a photograph showing both bridges in position.

Worcester.
