BIRMINGHAM Gardeners' Weekend, the perennial favourite, returns to Kings Heath Park on Saturday, August 31and Sunday, September 1, with everything for gardening fans.

And you could be there too in another super Advertiser/Messenger competition in conjunction with the weekend's organisers, Birmingham City Council's Department of Leisure and Culture,.

The 2002 show has great bargains, with a huge choice of plants, quality garden furniture and equipment for sale and is bursting with inspirational ideas for both the amateur and professional gardener.

Enthusiasts can get advice and top-tips from the green-fingered experts at the BBC Gardeners' World Magazine Marquee with Matthew Biggs (Saturday and Sunday) and Joe Swift (Sunday only).

Matthew has appeared regularly on BBC Radio 4's Gardeners' Question Time and writes for Gardeners' World Magazine, while Joe is a regular presenter on Gardeners' World and a popular visitor at Birmingham Gardeners' Weekend.

New for this year the BBC Gardeners' World challenge will see garden construction in action. In a race against time, the BBC team has challenged students from Pershore College of Horticulture and Birmingham Parks staff to recreate the garden designed by TV presenter Rachel de Thame for the Gardeners' World Show at the NEC last month. The students have the weekend to complete the garden - visitors taking advantage of the newly introduced 2-day ticket can check work in progress and see the finished garden.

The marquee also hosts glorious displays from RHS medal-winning growers including Hardy's Cottage Garden Plants; Organic garden specialist, Cottage Herbery and Robinson's Nursery with it's superb array of vegetables.

Two themed floral displays, featuring plants grown by Birmingham Parks nurseries, will celebrate the city's bid to be European Capital of Culture 2008 and IAAF World Indoor Championships taking place at the NEC in 2003.

The show also aims to make the whole experience as relaxing for the visitor as possible, with a 'plant creche', free car parking, a free shuttle bus from car park to the show and a free show guide. To keep the children entertained a play area for under fives and special craft workshops.
