A REDDITCH 14-year-old, who is studying at a top American university, scored three straight As at A-level.

Jonathan Pearson achieved the highest grades in physics, applied mathematics with mechanics and pure mathematics with statistics, as well as a C in chemistry.

Jonathan, who has attended Richmond College, Birmingham, for three years, is studying at Stanford University, San Francisco, for three weeks and is due home on Friday.

His mum Rachel said his next step should be university now his schooling had finished but the 14-year-old had found his choices were seriously limited.

"He really wanted to go to Birmingham University to study astrophysics but was turned down because of his age.

"The only thing he can do now is an isolated Open University course which he can't start until February," said Mrs Pearson.

She added: "There is nothing else this extremely gifted 14-year-old can do. We have been down every avenue.

"There is no point in sending him back to school because he has done his A-levels and he doesn't want to do any more, he needs degree material to focus on."
