TUESDAY'S Woodlands Views Affordable Open starts this week's events.

Held on Arles Pool, Roger Finch (Dudley Bait and Tackle) topped a modest score sheet with a 42-0-0 catch taken with pole, corn and meat from peg 28. Chris Hill (Fosters MG) followed with 36-0-0 and third was Wayne Mellings' (Fosters Tipton) 35-14-0.

The Startlets Veterans fished their contest on Woodlands Views Deans Pools and it was Ken Giles (Alvechurch) who showed the way by pole fishing corn and meat at peg 16 for 57-12-0. Runner-up was Roger Banfield (Stourport) with 52-10-0 and third was Fred Austin (Oldbury) with 48-0-0.

At Moorlands Farm, the Junior Steadfast 2000 Open saw 15-year-old Grant Nock (West Bromwich) take a clear victory from Meadow Pool peg five with a short pole and corn catch of 82-1-0. Craig Williams (Bromsgrove) was second with 44-2-0 and third was James Talbot (Kidderminster) with 40-10-0.

On Wednesday, the Moorlands Farm Meadow Pool Open gave Welsh wizard Giles Cochrane an outstanding winning catch of 145-10-0 taken with pole fished caster from up in the water at peg ten. Making it a Welsh double was Sam McCarthy who had 84-2-0 from peg 12 with third, Mike Lutwych (Fosters MG), taking 69-9-0.

At Astwood Fisheries, Bromsgrove's Gary Kirkham (Astwood) took first place with a pole and meat catch of 33-1-8 from Bluebell Pool peg seven. Second was Mike Carlow (Dog Anglers) with 25-12-0 and third went to Paul Webley (Kateshill AC) with 17-2-0.

At Lodge Park, in Redditch, the three-hour Evening Open was won by Bob Henk (Lodge Park AA) by ground bait feeder fishing with pellet hook bait to take seven carp for 35-15-0 from peg seven. Steve Marke (Ovation Leisure) was runner-up with 25-4-0 and third was Mark Hemmings (Lodge Park AA) with 24-4-0.

Thursday saw the Midlands Civil Service Regional National Championships Qualifier fished on the River Avon at Barford above the weir and eels featured in the top catches.

Dave Hicken (Yardley) took first place from peg 30 with 7-14-0, caught with pole and bronze maggots. Second was Eric Ward (Erdington) with 6-5-0 and third was Mark McGinley's (Stourport) 0-4-0.

The top six section winners make up the Midlands region team to fish on Thursday, September 19 at Hurworth Burn Reservoir, in Durham. The team is Dave Hicken, Mark McGinley, Barry Southall, John Cole, Eggie Prackacskas and yours truly Tony Brunn.

The Annual Stoke-on-Trent Disabled Invitation event saw teams of four from all over the country take part. Yorkshire Tykes took the title with 14 points with the Midlands Bears second. Third was the British Disabled AA with 55.

The KH Veterans held their event on Woodlands Views Barley and Hay Pools with Derek Pickle (Bewdley) showing the way by pole fishing meat at Hay peg 11 for a 99-4-0 carp haul. Second was Harold Willey (Kidderminster), taking 70-10-0 and Roger Banfield (Stourport) took 67-6-0 for third.

On Friday, the Moorlands Farm Costcutter Open was held on the Meadow Pool, which saw Mark Tooze (Lifestyle) take a top catch 123-13-0 from peg 55 with pole corn and meat. Richard Massey (Moorlands) took 96-3-0 for second and third place went to David James (Moorlands AC) with 81-4-0.

Woodlands Views Afternoon Deans Pool Open was won by Klaus Fix (Tek Neek Trabucco) by pole fishing a 125-14-0 catch. Second was Chris Ball's (Spartans) 90-15-0 and third, Steve Pearce (Lifestyle), with 89-2-0.

Saturday's Woodlands Views Open was held on Deans and High Pools with Rubery top rod Stan Taylor (CSM) taking the honours by pole fishing corn and meat at high peg 17 for 91-7-0. Second was Matt Cox (Fiery Holes), taking 76-1-0 with Dave Hill (Fosters) in third with 70-0-0.

The Cornerstone AC Open was fished on the Grand Union Canal, in Small Heath, Birmingham, where roach and skimmers fed freely. Vince Gandley (Map Starlets) took the top score with 8-13-0, pole-fishing squats at peg 26.

Runner-up Keith Woodhead (Ovation Leisure) had a similar catch of 8-5-9 and third was Steve Pearce's (Tamworth Tackle) 7-10-0.

On Sunday, the Mallards AS took on the 100 AC in the first round of the BAA Knockout Cup at Swindon, on the Staffordshire/Worcestershire Canal. The Mallards six-man team goes through with a 26-13-4 tally to 100AC's 20-5-0.

Stuart Cutler was 100 AC's saving grace with a top catch 5-9-0 of mixed fish by alternating squats over ground bait and hemp seed from the first peg above bridge 39. Second was Chris Gale (Mallards) with 5-7-9 and third went to Martin Lewis' (Mallards) 4-15-8.

Kings Norton AS were on the River Avon at the Welford AC waters above the weir for their fourth aggregate contest. At top end peg one, Sheldon match man Wayne Wetherstone ground bait feeder and pole fished to take a winning skimmer catch of 8-12-0. Second was Richard Hoban's 5-0-8, followed by John Miller's 2-8-8 in third.

The Alvechurch Fisheries Horseshoe Pool Open produced some very good catches, headed by Alan Higgs (CSM) who pole fished corn and meat at peg 27 for 99-6-0.

Second was Mark Briggs' (Rubery) 97-6-0 and third went to Albert Jones (CSM) with 94-6-0.

Close weights were recorded at Furnace Mills Mucky Meadow Pool Open with long distance traveller Stuart Birchall (Cheshire Angling) showing the way by pole fishing casters at peg 45 for 57-6-0. Second, John Goulding (Viper AC), took 55-6-0 and Darren Dimmock (Marks Tackle) was third with 53-0-0.

At Woodlands View, the Deans Pool Open was won by Sean McCarthy (Pill Angling) with a 132-13-0 carp haul by pole fishing meat at peg 37. Ian Lockley (Map Starlets) was second with 119-3-0 and third was Adrian Mason's (Woodlands) 96-6-0.

Lee Richards (Lifestyle) continued his good form by winning the Moorlands Farm Open by pole fishing corn at peg 58 for 131-3-0. Second, Brian Cawley (Moorlands), took 71-12-0 and third was Richard Massey (Moorlands) with 70-1-0.

The three-hour evening Meadow Pool Open was won by Mick Henshall (Fosters MG) with a 100-12-0 catch taken with pole and corn from peg 57. Second was David James (Moorlands AC) with 99-9-0 and Steve Watson (Strettons) took 94-8-0 for third.
