BROMSGROVE CC First XI left it until the final ball of the game to complete the double over Birmingham division one basement side Bedworth last Saturday.

Skipper Nick Husbands took the final wicket to give his side victory by 77 runs at St Godwald's Park.

Batting first, the Boars' Nick Davies (2) was unlucky to be given out but Ross Liddell (71) and Simon Keyte (28) added 78 for the second wicket.

Wickets then fell as the hosts failed to keep the momentum going but Paul Duffy stood firm and found great support in Kish Patel batting at number eight.

The pair put on 80 runs in just 11 overs, Patel scoring 51 and Duffy 67 not out to allow Bromsgrove to post a good total of 255-7 from 55 overs.

Having scored large totals and lost this season, Bromsgrove began cautiously with Husbands bowling six overs for just two runs.

The first wicket came with the introduction of Patel who took three wickets. Paul Husbands also took one to ensure Bromsgrove stayed in control of their visitors at 126-5.

With ten overs remaining the game looked to be heading for a draw but Nick Husbands returned to remove the dangerous Mulla (14).

The overs ticked by before Nick Husbands struck again to remove Oakes and the reintroduction of Davies put Bromsgrove on the brink of victory when he took two wickets in his return over.

Bedworth skipper Heath Parnell (63no) could only watch at the other end as his tail enders faded away.

It came down to the final over with Bedworth number 11 Spacey at the crease. He saw out five deliveries before the Boars captain tempted him with a slower delivery that rolled on to his pads trapping him LBW off the final ball.

The Boars lost by six wickets to Bermuda touring side Southampton Rangers last Thursday.

The St Godwald's Park side posted 193-9 from 45 overs but the tourists reached their target with three overs and six wickets to spare.

Despite defeat, Husbands saw the game as a good exercise for both teams.

He said: "They came over here for some cricket experience and were a strong batting side. It is also a good test for us."
