DEFENDING champion Irene Wainwright went through to the quarter-finals of the singles on the second day of the City of Worcester Ladies Open Bowls Tournament at Cripplegate Park.
The Chester Road player had a comfortable 21-15 win over G. Cliff (Hewell).
Worcester's Jean Taylor put up a great fight against Sue King of Lilleshall, eventually being edged out 21-19.
In the pairs, Mary Harrison and Sylvia Bosworth (Cripplegate Ladies) were just pipped 22-21 by Droitwich Spa's Rosemary Higgitt and Pam Bennett in a see-saw contest, the Droitwich pair taking seven shots on the 15th end.
In the triples, the Worcester Ladies trio of P. Jew, P. Bennett and I. Yeomans pulled out all the stops to come back from 14-8 down and defeat Chester Road's P. Hatfield, A. Perks and E. Allen 21-18.
