THERE has been justified concern expressed about the apparent complacency of the local police chief regarding levels of crime in Redditch and whether people feel safe because of it.

In one respect at least, residents must take part of the responsibility because so often when people who are experiencing problems are urged to ring the police, they refuse on the grounds they feel nothing will be done.

This may be so but as I understand it, all calls are now logged on a computer so there is a complete record of any problems and how many complaints there have been.

So if people will only take the trouble to make a phone call, there will no longer be any excuse for pleading ignorance of any problems in the town.

It will also pinpoint areas which need to be targeted and if available resources are insufficient. will give the police evidence to present to the Home Office.
