WORCESTER'S annual Victorian Christmas Fayre will run from November 27 to December 1 next year.

The city council agreed to review the dates of the fayre and, after consulting groups including the Chamber of Commerce and the Worcester Tourism Association, the decision was made by the Cabinet.

Council leader Stephen Inman, said there had been many different opinions on when the popular event should be held.

With coachloads of people travelling from all over the country to attend, he highlighted the concerns about safety issues raised by Worcester police.

"The information from retailers is that the first weekend in December is when people really begin their Christmas shopping and they would be coming into the city anyway.

"To have an already large number of people in the centre, and then add to it with the fayre, may just go too far where safety's concerned," said Councillor Inman.

"On those grounds, I do see a reason for having it on the last weekend in November."
