AS a former Rhodesian resident, my heart goes out to the white farmers who are being ordered off their land by Mugabe.
Their only crime is that they have, over many generations, managed to turn virgin bush into some of the most productive farmland in Africa.
They did not "grab" the best land, they created it.
This not only made Rhodesia self-sufficient, but enabled it to export its surplus to its neighbours, many of who were still reliant on handouts, despite their "independence" of many years.
The farmers' treatment by Mugabe and his thugs comes as no surprise. However, the indifference shown by this Government on their plight, does.
This country was quick enough to assist the Ugandan Asians.
The Government should now do the right thing and help our kith and kin in Zimbabwe.
