A £50m facelift for Worcester is proposed (Evening News, August 13). Sorry, I can't see that happening for at least another 10 years.

There have been many good proposals that could have turned this city into a wonderful, unique centre, uniting intriguing history with being a cosmopolitan go-ahead venue of choice for top shops, businesses and conferences.

However, at every proposal, there has been some objection from some quarter - or rejection by councillors flexing their powers. This has left Worcester as a historic city, scruffy with litter and crowded with decrepit buildings and housing.

It is nice reading all these proposals - but nothing happens! What about all those majestic plans for the old cattle market?

History repeats itself. In the 19th Century, the city fathers rejected the idea of a railway line coming through Worcester. Thus we are only on a spur - an afterthought in the heart of England.

Wake up Worcester. We have a lot to offer to our people and the world.

ANDREW HALL, Worcester.
