I AGREE with D E Margrett that it does seem rather degrading to see a bucket on the head of Sir Edward Elgar's statue (You Say, August 8). Recently, it was a traffic cone.
However, these seem manifestations of youthful high spirits rather than acts of destructive vandalism.
From what I have heard of Sir Edward's sense of humour, I like to think he would have enjoyed the joke.
