WORCESTER'S batsmen returned to form on Saturday which enabled them to secure a much-needed Birmingham Cricket League Division One win when Attock were the visitors to the Gordon Jones Memorial Ground.

Andrew Mason won the toss for Worcester and decided to bat on a good looking pitch.

The Worcester innings started in a disastrous manner with the first three batsmen back in the pavilion with only 35 runs on the board.

However, Tatendu Taibu and James Brinkley joined forces in a partnership which realised 156 runs.

Taibu, playing his final game before returning to Zimbabwe's training camp in preparation for next months ICC Mini World Cup in Sri Lanka, made his maiden Birmingham League century, being run out for exactly 100 off the final ball of the Worcester innings.

Brinkley had earlier been caught on the boundary attempting a big hit and was dismissed for a valuable 89, including thirteen fours.

Worcester reached what had seemed unlikely earlier, the respectable total of 265-9 off their 55 overs. Pick of the bowlers for Attock being Sadiq Mohammed with 5-65.

Attock's reply was rocked by an explosive opening burst from pace bowler Guy Muspratt as he removed the first three batsmen with only 18 runs on the board. However, Mohammed re-mained firm at the crease and made a sound 92, but it was not enough to save his side as they were bundled out for 166.

Muspratt finished with figures of 4-40 and he was well supported by Phil Knight (3-30) and James Wagstaff (3-50). Worcester took 20 points to Attock's six.

Worcester's Second XI were awarded 20 points when their scheduled opponents, Whea-ton Aston could not raise a team and had to concede the game.
