STOURPORT Swifts had to settle for a share of the points after two late goals denied them an opening Dr Martens Western League day victory at Swindon Supermarine.

But it could have been so much worse for the Walshes Meadow club who lost player-boss Tim Langford midway through the first half with a calf injury.

Swifts, already without suspended striker Kerry Giddings, survived an early scare when Swindon's Warren Fuller struck the upright from 25 yards.

From then on there was little to cheer from either side in a poor opening half played out in baking temperatures.

Whatever the respective managers said at half-time seemed to pay dividends with both sides coming out with all guns blazing at the start of the second period.

Mark Richards and Fuller both went close for Swindon before the Swifts finally found their feet and striker Paul Edwards was denied by the home side's upright.

Jan Mulders then had a header cleared off the line for the visitors before fellow defender Dave Davies finally broke the deadlock.

Davies scored from six yards on 70 minutes after Paul Edwards had fired in a Richard Crisp short corner.

The points looked to be heading back up the M5 when Swifts added a second on 85 minutes.

Richard Gardner headed home via the upright following a flick-on by Simon Marsh.

But the goal just spurred on the home side and they pulled a goal back two minutes later when Fuller blasted home a spot-kick after being fouled by Davies.

Swindon's equaliser came on 90 minutes when substitute Adam Collier shrugged off the attention of two defenders and drilled home from eight yards.
