RECENTLY I tried to put the case for dogs after A K Chance's display of unreasonable prejudice. Now we see N Taylor having similar attitudes in regard to cats, (You Say, July 5).

Cats, like dogs, are often of great comfort to the elderly and the bereaved. However, by their nature, cats are far more independent that dogs. They cannot be controlled in the way that dogs can. That is why a few are using N Taylor's garden as a toilet.

This correspondent should be prepared to be tolerant, because it has only been given to one of the planet's millions of life forms to know the difference between right and wrong.
