The excellence of Malvern cricket was displayed in the Universities match last week. A London contemporary says that W H B Evans' innings was undoubtedly the best played in the match and there was no-one who appeared more likely to develop into a really great batsman. Possessing the natural advantages of height and reach, he has a nice free style, his play on the off-side being very reminiscent of Tyldesley. Malvern Gazette, July 11, 1902.

William Farley was summoned for allowing a chimney to be on fire. PC Williams proved the case. He said he was on duty in the High Street and saw a tremendous smoke in The Homend. He had received several complaints, and lumps of soot were falling down the chimney into the kitchen as big as bricks. This is the first case brought before the Bench since the existence of the Urban Council. Ledbury Free Press, July 15, 1902.

Because of foot and mouth disease restrictions, the RRDE Motor Club driving test due to take place at the Gloucester Drive, Madresfield, on Sunday has been cancelled. Mr E R Tobitt, the hon. secretary of the club, tells me that efforts are being made to try and obtain another site for the event. Malvern Gazette, July 11, 1952.

Malvern Priory Park at the moment hasn't got any sand in the sand pit, any water in the paddling pool or anyone to hire out the paddle boats. The wooden bridge over Swan Pool is broken, all the deck chairs that went out for hire are broken, the learner swimming pool is leaking and several more hire boats are so broken they are beyond repair. Malvern Gazette, July 14, 1977.

The change of venue for the Ledbury Carnival Queen selection proved a major success on Friday night. Donna Hill, aged 16, of Bridge Street, said she would never have entered the competition had it been held at the Community Centre, as last year. Several people echoed her feeling that the atmosphere at the Feathers had been far preferable to last year's event, where the conduct of some spectators had left a lot to be desired. Ledbury Reporter, July 14, 1977.
