A splendid evening's entertainment was provided by pupils aged four to 19 from schools across the county.

Woodfield String Group began in style, with the singers of Cleeve Prior First School maintaining their parts well in The Wreck of the John B and singing with zest and excellent tuning in Super Trouper.

Alix Pochribnaiak, from Comberton Middle School, played the piano solo Blue Print before two flutes, two keyboards, a recorder and small xylophone performed in ensemble. The choir from Manor Park infected us with their enjoyment in Colours of the Rainbow and made us think as they sang Looking After God's World.

The dramatisation of The Awongaleema Tree by St Kenelm's CE First School was great fun and employed rhythmic percussion and speech. Great Malvern Primary presented a mixed programme of singing, recorders and clarinets, including Sometimes I Wonder, with soloist Caroline Hamilton.

Backwash, from Bishop Perowne, won the recent 'Battle of the Bands' and, with maximum decibels, we heard their three electric guitars, drums and vocalist. Solos were sung by soprano Ruth Leavesley, of Hagley RC High School, accompanied by Daniel Ruby, while the Suzuki Violin Ensemble showed how progression can be made from Twinkle, Twinkle to Telemann's Concerto in D major.

Burlish Middle School enlivened Siyahamba (trad. African) with actions, while Pershore High School's string ensemble produced some interesting arrangements. Lead Me, Lord began with a pleasing solo, prefacing some expert part singing by Bishop Perowne Chamber Choir, before an exciting Finale, when all the participating pupils joined in Ba-nu-wa (trad. African).
