I CONGRATULATE you on including the Cracking The Code article in your letters to the editor, a very emotive subject for us golfers and I am sure you will have many replies, here is mine. 'When In Rome'

For such a seasoned and respected world traveller not to have learnt the basic lesson of 'When in Rome do as the Romans do' is surprising, wanting to change years of tradition enjoyed by millions in order to cater for the uninformed few is ridiculous.

The real problem here and this is where Mrs Hewards anger should be directed lies with the organisers of her society, having been involved with a society myself complying with the rules of the club you are visiting is paramount. Somebody in Mr Hewards society organised the day, somebody the food and times to eat it, and somebody failed to check on the dress code required in the clubhouse and restaurant.

The golf club did nothing wrong in upholding its members wishes and I applaud them for doing so.

Golf is a wonderful sport enjoyed by all ages, it is not tainted by the problems some sports endure such as unruly crowds, vandalism etc. This is a sport with high ideals and standards, enjoyed and greatly valued by all true golfers.
