JOYRIDING on a public car park has ceased since offenders were warned they face prosecution - and risked killing someone.

District councillor Brian Glass said dangerous driving on the grass overflow car park on Stourport's riverside has disappeared since Wyre Forest District Council's clampdown was highlighted in the Shuttle/Times & News last month.

The community health and safety portfolio-holder added: "If others continue to do it they know they are going to be booked and prosecuted for it.

"The last two weekends were absolutely problem-free. I want the riverside to be nice for people, without the threat of injury."

Andrew Dickens, the district council's cultural, leisure and commercial services manager, has put the problem down to a hard-core of Stourport youths.

He said it was "only a matter of time" before someone was killed if offenders persisted.

Two people reported to the police last month for joyriding on the car park, open on summer weekends, are being prosecuted by the authority.
