TWO golfers have raised the best part of £1,000 for charity by spending 12 hours playing at Bromsgrove Golf Club.

Nathan Williams, of Worcester but formerly of All Saints Road, Bromsgrove, and friend Mark Powell, from Northfield, played three rounds at the Stratford Road club between 8am and 8pm last Monday.

The pair, both amateur golfers, decided to take up the challenge for Sport Relief, a spin-off from Comic Relief currently being organised by the BBC.

Nathan, aged 32, said: "Every year I watch Comic Relief on TV and always say I'll do something but never do.

"So this year as it was Sport Relief it all tied in nicely so I suggested the golf to Mark and he thought it was a good idea."

The best score on the day was 84, 12 over par for the course, but both men were pleased with their efforts.

"We had fine weather all day and the club were very accommodating, making sure we had water," Nathan added.
