POP star George Michael thinks that our Prime Minister ought to be a "calming and rational influence" on President Bush (Teabreak, July 2).

Is it not Blair who needs a rational influence when he believes that there can be a peaceful and democratic settlement of the Palestinian question?

As for his complaint that popular views have not been heard over the possible bombing of Iraq, it's an underlying assumption of all governments that military action is a possibility.

In an emergency situation, this action may have to take place immediately. Saddam Hussein not only supports terrorism, but seeks possession of weapons of mass destruction.

It's incredible that we haven't already taken greater military action against Iraq.
