A BRIGHT spark who helped to light up the magnificent medieval Guesten Hall at Avoncroft Museum is to be immortalised in a hand carved wooden corbel set to adorn the restored roof.

The official unveiling of a carved corbel of electrician John Richardson, of Tamworth, is due to take place on Monday, at the Stoke Heath museum.

As an electrician with I&A Crowhurst Contracts Ltd, John was responsible for installing all the electrical circuits and lighting within the New Guesten Hall which now incorporates the Medieval roof.

A further corbel, featuring the museum's first director Michael Thomas, will also be unveiled at the same time. Both John and Michael are due to be on hand to see themselves immortalised in wood.

The corbels, hand carved in lime wood, are two of eight to have now been commissioned from internationally renowned London-based wood carver Guy Reid.

The corbels have been produced due to the generous financial support of a number of charitable trusts and organisations including The Bromsgrove Society, Elmley Foundation and The Len Giles Trust.

Each of the corbels represents an individual involved in the rescue and re-erection of the Medieval Guesten Hall Roof. A further £18,000 needs to be raised by the museum to complete the final six carvings.
