Unemployment is falling in the West Midlands and across the UK.

In Redditch, there are growing opportunities for those who want to work.

This week I will be officially launching work on a new office complex in Ravensbank.

The developers are predicting 200 jobs being created and many of these will be available to Redditch people.

It is an indication of the strength of the economy and that Redditch is a place where businesses can do business.

This does not mean that we can be complacent about keeping our economy going.

I am also meeting the Chamber of Commerce where I am sure, training, regulation and support for vulnerable industries will be raised.

We must not take our eye off the ball because a healthy economy is the bedrock on which all our services are based.

On Friday, I attended a meeting at the Dorothy Terry House with relatives and staff concerned about the long term future of the home.

The Red Cross say that they have decided to pull out of their four long term residential homes in the UK because residential care does not fit with their national plans.

I have challenged them to change their minds. In case they don't, I am also looking for new owners to manage the home.

The residents deserve nothing less.

Last week we had great news from John Spellar MP, the Transport Minister, that Orders applied to properties along the original long western Studley Bypass route would be lifted.

This will remove the blight that has affected the homes of hundreds of families in Redditch for years.

It is a clear indication that the long bypass route to the west of Studley is a non-runner.

Warwickshire County Council must now look at more affordable options to relieve the congestion in Studley, like a short bypass to the east of the village.

Well done to all of those who have helped the campaign over the years and thank you John Spellar for listening to the arguments.
