A DROITWICH teacher has received a special commendation at a regional teaching awards ceremony.

Pamela Tildesley, headteacher at Westlands First School, received the praise at the BT Teaching Awards last week.

She was shortlisted for the Leadership Trust Award for School Leadership in a Primary School.

The West Midlands regional awards took place on Wednesday, July 3, at the University of Birmingham.

It was hosted by BBC presenter Sue Beardsmore and attended by Ivan Lewis MP, the Parliamentary Under-secretary of State for Adult Learning.

"I was really thrilled," said Mrs Tildesley

"It was a lovely occasion and quite inspiring. You hear wonderful stories about teachers who are totally committed to teaching.

"I was very flattered to just be there."

Mrs Tildesley received a certificate and pin badge as well as a £250 cheque for the school.

"I'm going to buy a plumbed-in urn for the staffroom, which will be filled with tea and coffee," she said.

"They deserve the best I can give them because I wouldn't have been nominated for the award without the staff."
