A TEENAGE soldier is back in Worcester to talk to potential recruits about career benefits in the Army.

Craftsman Piers Warren, a former Nunnery Wood High School pupil, joined the Army to improve his education and is currently at the Army Careers Office in Foregate Street.

The 19-year-old spent one year at Worcester Sixth Form College before joining the Army.

"I didn't like college so much, I was doing A-levels," said Cfn Warren, whose parents live off London Road.

"This was a much better choice."

He joined the Army in 2000 and went to the Army Technical Foundation College in Arborfield, Berkshire.

"It meant I could earn money as well as get an education," said Cfn Warren.

"It was more specialised in what I wanted to do.

"I've done NVQs in information technology and key skills courses.

"I've also done a basic electronics course. I'll soon be starting an avionics course at the school of Aeronautic Engineering to become an avionics technician."

Cfn Warren is serving with the Corps of Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineering, which means he could be posted to any of the Army's regiments.

Information about the Army Technical Foundation College can found at the Foregate Street office.

"If you're leaving school next year then get the information you need now to follow Piers into technical college," said C/Sgt Pete Elcock, manager at the careers office.

"It's a worthwhile career with further education."
