COMPANIES on Malvern Link's Enigma Business Park are teaming up with health professionals to offer check-ups to employees during National Men's Health Week.

Men working on the estate will have the chance to discuss health issues and carry out basic health checks, or get advice on healthy eating or quitting smoking.

Mark Glossop, of the Enigma Business Park Partnership, said: "We want our male employees to help us take a positive part in this important event. Men's health is a serious issue and men have a tendency to ignore their own health symptoms and needs, which has been confirmed in recent work carried out within companies here in Enigma.

"This reluctance leads to late diagnoses and delayed action on issues which could be tackled earlier. This may lead to an avoidable decline in health generally and increased sickness and absence from work."

The men can also arrange to have 10-minute private discussions with a health professional.

Meryl Johnson, who helped set up the day, said: "The longer sessions will give men a chance to talk about health concerns in confidence. Taking health care on the road, so to speak, to where men work would not be possible without the positive involvement of the employers and the men themselves.

"Similar initiatives have shown that men are happy to accept these check-ups and the real opportunity to talk in confidence about health issues, both physical and mental which they are concerned about," said Mrs Johnson.

The health check day is Wednesday, June 12, and men can drop in from 11am to 5.30pm. The venues are at English Braids in Spring Lane and Malvern Instruments in Grovewood Road.

"We also hope that employees will use the opportunity to walk rather than drive to the venue they choose and we hope this will encourage all men in Enigma at all levels to take care of themselves for the future," Mr Glossop added.

The week runs from June 10 to June 14.
