WHAT a joyous vision you paint in Opinion (May 24) of a direct link from the M5, crossing the river presumably somewhere near the Rhydd.

But why leave it there? Why not develop the Guarlford straight into a fast dual carriageway with factories either side and the odd Little Chef and Happy Eater for the tourists. That awkward kink around Guarlford itself could be straightened out by flattening the church - surely no one could object in the name of progress.

At Barnards Green the increase in car volume could be solved by tarmacing Poolbrook Common - perhaps the odd resident might object about loss of amenity etc but parking clearly must take precedent.

Finally a shuttle service to the foot of the Hills, where newly erected turnstiles will ensure a good financial return on increased tourism. The final crowning glory could be a McDonalds on the Worcestershire Beacon, its neon flashing capital M visible all the way to Kidderminster and beyond.

Only then will we have created for future generations a Malvern fit for Philistines to enjoy.
