Community spirit is alive and well on three streets in Ledbury, where residents came together to celebrate the Jubilee.

People in Newbury Park revelled in their decision to begin their festivities at 4pm on Bank Holiday Monday, when sunshine had replaced earlier rain.

At tables laid out down the centre of the road, children painted a variety of Jubilee images to create a paper tapestry and decorated frames for souvenir photographs of themselves in home-made hats. Later, adults gathered for a barbecue and fireworks.

Resident Brian Hawkett, whose parents and grandparents also lived at Newbury Park, said: "We've seen quite a few street parties and this is as nice as any of them. Everyone is joining in and being very happy."

Similar parties were enjoyed by residents of the Belle Orchard and Wye View, about 45 adults and 24 children enjoyed coronation chicken and all the trimmings under four specially constructed gazebos.

Resident Ken Thomson said: "I think everybody enjoyed it. It's a new estate and a lot of the neighbours had not met before."

Around 1,000 people visited the Raise the Roof Parish Flower Festival at St Michael and All Angels' Church during the four days of celebrations. Thirty-one local groups presented displays.

Organisers of Wellington Heath's Golden Jubilee Summer Party rated their event an "unqualified success", despite moving into the village hall from outside the Farmers Arms because of rain.

More than 80 children took part in games, before feasting on teacakes, strawberries, ice cream and a barbecue. There was also a tug-of-war competition and bouncy castle.

Every child received a Wellington Heath Jubilee Mug from master of ceremonies and event co-ordinator Ann Low. The day ended with a disco and fireworks.
