I think local people might want to consider a few points before deciding how they feel about the proposed asylum centre at Throckmorton and government policy on the issue.

The fact that the government have decided to locate several hundred asylum seekers on land that was recently considered unfit for habitation and has been further ruined with 130,000 animal carcasses, might infer that the government have different standards which apply to foreigners seeking asylum. Further, if I were seeking asylum in a country with a socialist democratic government, I'd be more than a bit upset when I discovered the facts surrounding the place I was being 'processed'. I suspect comments such as Lord Rooker's carefully chosen words on the site would do little to calm me down.

Secondly, the government fully realise that a policy such as this would result in a fight.

They chose this area and it's people for that fight because the land now has little value, we are relatively sparsely populated and there aren't too many Labour voters to upset.

Lastly, if we choose a course of inaction over this decision, we may as well be voting for it.

Also, if we choose inaction, we have no right to complain should the outcome be one we do not like. If you want to offer some resistance, get behind PACT.
