WITH recorder music currently making something of a resurgence in popularity, classical music fans in Stratford are in for a treat next month.
A recital of recorder music by composers such as Handel, Marcello, Leigh, Ireland and Turner, is taking place at the Shakespeare Institute, Church Street, on Sunday, June 9 at 3pm.
The music will be performed by professional recorder player Caroline Jones, who will display her virtuosity on sopranino, descant, treble and bass recorders. She will be accompanied by pianist Rosemary Robinson.
"There is a vast amount of music being written for the recorder," said 39-year-old Caroline, who has been playing the instrument since she was eight.
She believes the recorder has become undervalued because the availability of cheap, plastic instruments has made it a popular choice for children starting learning music at school.
"Recorder music goes back to medieval times and you have got some fantastic music written for it," she added.
Tickets for the recital, which includes strawberries and cream, cost £7 (£6 concessions) and £1 for children. They can be reserved by calling 0121 704 3081 or bought at the door on the day.
